If the injury requires first aid only:

  1. Instruct a qualified person to administer appropriate first aid immediately.
  2. Complete and submit the Report of Injury.
  3. Determine the cause of the accident and obtain names of all witnesses.
  4. Think about and apply corrective measures to prevent future recurrences of the accident.

Note: If you have any questions or doubts about the seriousness of the injury, always treat it as one requiring a physician's treatment.

Physician Treatment Required

If the injury requires physician treatment:

  1. Seek prompt medical attention by taking the injured employee to a physician or to the nearest emergency facility (if warranted).
  2. Complete and submit the Report of Injury.
  3. Determine the cause of the accident and obtain names of all witnesses.
  4. Think about and apply corrective measures to prevent future recurrences of the accident.
  5. If a serious injury occurs and equipment is involved, do not move the equipment if it can be left at the scene of the accident. Additional investigation may be necessary.
